  Re: Medicare Beneficiary Identifiers (MBI) Requirement Change  
  As you know, Medicare has implemented the new Medicare Beneficiary Identifiers (MBI) that replaces the previous SSN-based HICN number. Medicare is accepting either number until the transition ends on 12/31/19.  
  Effective 1/1/2020, our verification system will no longer recognize the old Medicare ID numbers (SSN with an additional letter). The system will only recognize the new MBI. When Medicare Part A and/or B need to be verified, the MBI number will be required before the application can be issued.  
  We will continue to issue without the MBI, when not yet available, for those in Open Enrollment due to age.  
  The largest impact will be felt by those who are coming off of group coverage (except in Open Enrollment situations), as we do require proof of Medicare effective dates for issue.
